What does a CRM need for field sales?

Short answer

Three things: It must be operable on a smartphone, function without internet connectivity, and recording a visit must take no longer than one minute. Whoever is sitting in a car and heading to the next appointment documents only what is possible during that time.

The three requirements

Mobile operability. Not a scaled-down version of the office interface, but a dedicated, simplified view: Today's appointments, call a contact, record a visit.

Usable without internet. In industrial areas, in basements, in rural regions. Data is stored locally and synchronized as soon as connectivity is reestablished.

Recording in under one minute. Best with preselection instead of free text: Who was there, what was the result, what is the next step.

What is additionally helpful

  • Daily route with map view
  • Display nearby customers – for rescheduled appointments
  • Voice input for notes
  • Photos directly at the contact

The most common mistake

Too many mandatory fields. Every additional mandatory field reduces the number of recorded visits. Better three fields that are always filled out than twelve, that lead to "xxx".

What convinces field sales

Not the control function, but the benefit for them themselves: all information about the customer before the appointment on the smartphone, without needing to call the office. A system that only generates reports for management is not maintained.
